Getting ready to move into a fraternity house? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Fraternities, unlike dorms and apartments, have differing requirements on move in items. As with our other lists, here’s some quick tips on getting ready to move:

1. Navigate the list below and identify which items you already have purchased and which items you will need to get.
2. When moving into a fraternity, be sure to check what items will already be furnished. Nearly all fraternities will supply beds, but only some will come with desks and armories.

4. When you receive your required textbooks for classes, immediately go to Chegg and check the prices for your textbooks. There’s a 99% probability that the prices are cheaper than your local University bookstore. Textbooks are one of the few things that you can save huge on in school, so don’t waste money if it’s not needed.

What to Take to College for a Guy in A Fraternity

Below provides an extensive supply list for packing for a fraternity house. We have organized this by category and are continually rolling out new recommendations on what to purchase for each item. Please check back regularly for our best recommendations!

Getting organized

Before moving in, check with the fraternity on what exists for wardrobe or armoires. A good majority of fraternities likely provide their members with organization for clothes, but it likely won’t be much space. If additional space is required, look to purchasing storage carts or a storage chest to put in your room.

Bedding

Nearly all fraternities provide their members with a place to sleep, and it’s likely going to be a twin XL, but be sure to double check. Shower

Most fraternities have communal bathrooms, therefore it’s important to purchase a shower tote/caddy to carry between a members room and the shower. Also, don’t forget to pack an old pair of waterproof flip flops to wear while showering.

Eat

Most fraternities will have an on-site chef that cooks breakfast, lunch and dinner. The first purchase should be a mini fridge in order to store snacks and beverages in a students room. In addition, it’s good to stock up on additional snacks.

Laundry

Before move in, check with your fraternity if their onsite laundry is free to use. Some offer free laundry that is paid within membership dues, while others may not offer laundry services at all.

Furniture

Furniture provided is likely going to be scarce. Some fraternities will provide members with desks in their rooms, but you’ll likely need to bring a chair. A smart purchase is to buy a futon or cheap sofa. Remember, don’t spend too much on furniture, as it will likely get ruined in the process.

Entertainment

The best plan for entertainment is checking with your fraternity roommates, if you know who they are, and seeing if they’re bringing a television. If not, purchase a TV as it’s a great source of entrainment and a good way to bond.
